Privacy Policy
We keep it simple.
Last updated: April 26, 2026
SolarROI is an iOS app that helps solar contractors generate proposals for their customers. This page explains, in plain English, what data the app handles and where it goes. If anything below is unclear, email support@solarroi.app and we'll fix it.
What we don't do
- No accounts. SolarROI does not require you to sign up or sign in.
- No analytics SDKs, no third-party trackers, no advertising networks.
- No data is sent to SolarROI's own servers — we don't run any.
- No customer data is uploaded for marketing or any other purpose.
Data stored on your device
Everything you enter into SolarROI is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad. It is not synced to a SolarROI cloud, because there is no SolarROI cloud. Specifically:
- Your contractor profile — company name, contact name, license number, phone, email, website, and business address. Stored in iOS user defaults.
- Your custom watermark image (Pro feature), if you've uploaded one. Stored in iOS user defaults.
- Your customer projects — customer name and contact info, customer address, system size, tilt, azimuth, roof type, module type, financial inputs, and the production / financial results SolarROI calculates. Saved as JSON files in the app's private Documents directory.
- Your default rates — cost per watt, utility rate, escalator, ITC percent, default losses.
This data is included in standard iOS / iCloud device backups (because Apple backs up app data by default). It never leaves your device through SolarROI.
Data sent to third parties
To produce a proposal, SolarROI talks to two services on your behalf. Both are well-known and operate under their own privacy policies.
1. Apple — geocoding
When you enter a customer address, SolarROI uses Apple's CLGeocoder (the same component Apple Maps uses) to convert that address into latitude and longitude. This is an iOS system service. The address text is sent to Apple. SolarROI does not control how Apple processes these requests — see Apple's privacy policy for details.
2. NREL — solar production estimates
SolarROI calls the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's PVWatts v8
API (developer.nrel.gov) to estimate how much electricity
a given system will produce at a given site. We send NREL:
- The latitude and longitude of the project site
- System capacity in kW, tilt, azimuth, array type, module type, and losses
- An NREL API key
Customer names, addresses, contact info, and pricing are
not sent to NREL — only the numeric site and system
parameters needed for the simulation. By default the app uses NREL's
public DEMO_KEY; if you provide your own NREL API key in
Settings, it is stored locally on your device and used in place of
DEMO_KEY.
3. Apple — subscription processing
SolarROI Pro ($4.99/month) is sold through Apple's StoreKit. Apple handles the entire transaction: payment method, billing, tax, and renewals. SolarROI never sees your payment information. We only receive a signal from Apple confirming whether your subscription is currently active.
PDFs you generate
When you export a PDF proposal, that file is generated entirely on-device and handed to iOS's standard share sheet. Where it goes next — Mail, Messages, AirDrop, Files, a third-party app — is up to you. SolarROI does not retain a copy beyond the project record on your device.
Children
SolarROI is a tool for professional solar contractors. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your control
Because data lives on your device, you control it. Delete a project from inside SolarROI to remove it. Delete the app to remove everything (contractor profile, projects, watermark, settings).
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and bump the date at the top. For material changes, we'll also note them in the App Store release notes.
